Alison Sweeney Likely to Return for 'Days of Our Lives' 50th Anniversary

Could Alison Sweeney be headed back to Days of Our Lives just in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year? Soap fans went crazy a few days ago when it seemed to be confirmed but now we are hearing that the deal hasn't been inked just yet. TV Guide's Michael Logan usually has all of the soap industry news before anyone else and so when he tweeted that Sweeney was confirmed no one thought to question it.

Unfortunately, he had to chase that tweet with another: "Update on @Ali_Sweeney 's return for #Days 50th: According to her PR rep, "This is wishful thinking on Ken's part, not a done deal." explained Logan.

Here is what we know for certain. Sweeney portrayed Sami Brady for more than 20 years on Days, easily one of the shows' most popular characters of all time. When she finally decided to leave the soap last year, Sweeney said that she fully expected to return at times and especially wanted to be a part of Days' anniversary celebration. She left on very good terms and her character can easily pop in to the fictional Salem to visit family.

We also know that Days in general loves to bring back core characters on special occasions and Sami is certainly one of those. The show has already confirmed that Peter Reckell and Stephen Nichols will be returning to the show for its anniversary celebration so we know that executive producer Ken Corday is really reeling in some of the stars that spent decades with the show and that would include Sweeney.

Do you think that once the details are worked out then we'll hear that Sweeney is indeed returning? Can you imagine her not filming something for the anniversary of the show that made her famous? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
