Notice anything different when you turned on Spotify today? Of course you didn't. Nonetheless, a momentous breakthrough came for listeners, especially listeners of the British variety: Rockers Oasis finally made its catalogue available for the service. Fans can now check out classics such as Definitely Maybe and [What's The Story] Morning Glory.
Oasis hasn't been a bitter holdout similar to Radiohead (vocalist Thom Yorke is especially opposed), but corporate factors have prevented the band's discography from being available on Spotify thus far. Management company Ignition came to agreements that allowed the music to be placed on Spotify and other streaming sites, such as Deezer and Rdio. Fellow Brits Led Zeppelin saw its catalogue final hit streaming services during December of 2013.
The significance of the moment ends there however. Some have already suggested it could be the first step in a lead-up to an Oasis reunion during 2014, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Definitely Maybe. All indications seem to suggest otherwise however. Guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs said he felt vocalist Liam Gallagher would jump at the chance, but that's easy for him to say. Everyone knows the strife within Oasis is the ever-ongoing battle of egos between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. The latter has been more vocal in his opposition to a reunion, and he's plenty busy with his new group, the High Flying Birds. Liam's own group, Beady Eye, has already schedule festival appearances including Coachella for 2014.
Still, for those who desperately need something to believe in, the lineup for Glastonbury remains a largely blank slate.
