Rapper Wale opened up about his recent Billboard comments regarding being compared to singer Beck and rapper Kendrick Lamar during his Hot 97 Listening Lounge for his latest album, "The Album About Nothing."
The MMG rap star explained that he doesn't get the same respect as other artist despite releasing four albums, "I'm okay with people not liking my music but provide an intelligent reason for why you like or don't like something or you're a hater or a d*ck-rider."
He stated: "This is my fourth album. I want some respect. I want to go to a party and not have Katy Perry tell her security to move me out of the f**kin' way. We do the same thing. I know there's no union in the music industry, but have some respect. I want people to be like, 'Your album's just as good as Kendrick [Lamar]'s or Esperanza Spalding or Beck.' I work just as hard as them."
The ambitious 30-year-old addressed the recent backlash during his interview with Hot 97 and explained that he wasn't knocking the Alternative Rock star's recent Grammy win or Kendrick's blazing popularity, however, he feels passionate enough in his craft to be a contender in the music game, "He won album of the year. We all set our goals to that. Like people care. I don't use Hip Hop as a lick, it ain't like a hustle for me. I enjoy the art. We all at the science fair, and I'm the mother f**ka like fuck your little volcano, I'm trying to provide a living breathing organism of life and cure every disease ever at the science fair."
He added, "I actually love the sport of rap music. I love Reasonable Doubt, Ready To Die, Aquemini and ATLiens -I love those classic rap albums and I always dreamed of achieving that status and making something like that."
