If there weren't rumors for months, this announcement would almost sound like an April Fools' Day joke... but, really, Steven Tyler will be releasing a solo country music album. Last night (March 31) the Aerosmith frontman and former American Idol judge unveiled his official intentions to tap into country music for a new LP.
Tyler announced his solo country debut, fittingly, at the Grand Ole Opry, according to Rolling Stone Country. During a night filled with music by Eric Paslay, Charlie Daniels and more, Tyler stole the show by taking over the stage and declaring that he's moved to Nashville and is working on a country album.
Exact details about the record remain scarce, with a tentative release date, title and producers all a mystery. However, Tyler is noted to be working with Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records on the album.
Though the news may seem like a major surprise to fans of the classic rocker, who is responsible for "Dream On," "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," "Cryin'" and countless other hits, Rolling Stone Country brings up that Tyler has been flaunting his country roots for years now.
In recent years, he's teamed up with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Jana Kramer and more. Aerosmith even released a duet with country music superstar Carrie Underwood, "Can't Stop Lovin' You" for its 2013 album Music From Another Dimension!
The country album will surprisingly be Tyler's first solo effort as well as his first foray into country music.
