Dave Matthews Band has announced the dates for its annual summer tour. This year, the group is changing up their live show a bit. The tour, dubbed "A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band" will feature not only a full set from the band but also a special acoustic performance with Matthews and guitarist Tim Reynolds.
Matthews explained the tour's concept in a statement saying, "I was talking to [drummer Carter Beauford] about how much I still like just sitting around playing music together. It's how we started - in the basements of Carter's and my mom's houses. Our shows are loose, but we started thinking that maybe this summer we should make them looser and bring some of that feeling to the stage. It seems like the opposite of a safe plan, so why not?"
The tour kicks off May 16 in Texas and goes through early September. According to a press release, a variety of special guests will join the band throughout the stretch of dates, and their shows at The Gorge in George, WA will also feature a "Caravan Stage" with performances by other artists.
In late November, Matthews confirmed with Rolling Stone that he is also working on a new studio album to follow up last year's Away from the World. According to the interview, the band was working with producer Rob Cavallo and recording engineer Doug McKean, who both worked on the band's seventh studio album Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King.
Tickets for the tour go on sale to the public beginning Friday, February 7. See if the tour is coming to a city near you, and let us know if you plan to attend in the comments section below!
