Kanye West has gotten his wish: Coinye West is dead. After the "Bound 2" rapper issued a cease-and-desist letter last week and filed a lawsuit in New York State today (Jan. 14), the coin's creators have finally called it quits.
Now, visitors to coinyeco.in see only a simple message: "COINYE IS DEAD. You win, Kanye," alongside a meme-like image of what appears to be Steve Harvey.
The end of Coinye West comes after West filed a lawsuit in Manhattan's federal court today. According to The Associated Press, West's lawsuit sought to stop the companies and people involved in Coinye West from using his likeness and name. The suit looked for monetary compensation for damages to West's business and name, as well as a share of Coinye profits.
Last week, West issued a cease-and-desist letter to the cryptocurrency creators, but that did not detour the seven anonymous people behind the stunt. Instead, they pushed up the coin's release from Jan. 11 to Jan. 7. So, though that wasn't enough to scare them, a full on lawsuit was.
There is still no word on whom exactly, was behind the cryptocurrency, a result of the e-coin's use and anonymous creation.
Cryptocurrency can be used to buy and sell things online, particularly in the seedier parts of the Internet. Coinye fans need not worry too much though, in the end there is still dogecoin.
