Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones launches ambient music project called Minibus Pimps

Although he made it clear that there won't be a Led Zeppelin reunion in 2014, John Paul Jones has another project underway to keep him busy this year. According to FACT Magazine, Jones and Norwegian dark ambient artist Helge Sten (the man behind Deathprod), have teamed up for a collaboration project under the name Minibus Pimps.

They are set to release their debut album, Cloud to Ground, on March 3 via SusannaSonata. The unusual band name comes from a title they found on the Chinese experimental music compilation, The Sonic Avant Garde.

The two have been actually been performing shows together since 2011, and the new album will be a compilation of live recordings from those concerts.

According to the article, an expensive sound system called Kyma is at the center of the Minibus Pimps sound. Each instrument — guitar, church organ, bass and violin — is fed through its processors to create droning sounds. The songs are equally composed and improvised and "explore themes which connect the dots between 70s prog-rock and the Norwegian new music movement."
