Record Store Day will officially make April 19 both Holy and Good Saturday

Christians are familiar with the ascribed names for the days leading up to Easter Sunday: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday. Saturday's always been an afterthought however, as nothing particularly relevant to the religion happened. If you happen to be a Christian who digs vinyl records, you may refer to April 19 as both Good and Holy Saturday, as it's been officially confirmed as Record Store Day 2014.

This isn't exactly news-breaking. Record Store Day originated during 2008 and has been held on the third Saturday of April every year since. It's just nice to know that indeed, the trend will continue during 2014.

If you thought that there was a chance Record Store Day might not happen this year, you haven't been reading music business reports. Vinyl made a 33 percent jump in total sales from 2012, marking the highest sales of the format since Nielsen Soundscan began tracking it during 1991. Participating records stores last April quickly sold out of all the limited edition albums and singles featured, and for the second year in a row, a mini-Record Store Day was held on Black Friday. It's not going anywhere.

Now that the date's been established, the real question can come up: What can vinyl fans expect for this year's edition? No hints have been given, but you can always expect something (if not a few somethings) from the folks at Third Man Records. Rumor has it Jack White is recording a covers album with Neil Young, so that's as good a guess as any. We'll keep you up to date when an actual release list emerges.
