After multiple high-profile shootings of unarmed black males, including Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Eric Garner, ended with the shooter not facing charges, justice finally appears to have been served in the case of Walter Scott. A South Carolina police officer has been charged for murder in the death of Scott who was unarmed when he was gunned down by Officer Michael T. Slager after being pulled over for a traffic stop.
Unlike the previous cases, the murder charge against him was swift due to the fact that the entire incident was caught on video by a bystander. The footage shows the officer and Scott in a vacant lot after Officer Slager fired his Taser. Something drops to the ground behind the two men, and the officer draws his gun and shoots at Scott, who is about 15-20 feet away and fleeing. After eight shots are fired, Scott falls to the ground. The officer runs back to the spot where the initial scuffle occurred and picks something off the ground. Moments later, he is shown stealthily dropping the object near Scott's body.
Aritsts such as K. Michelle, Lecrae, Big Boi, Michelle Williams, Janelle Monae, Anika Noni Rose and more have reacted to the situation on Twitter, saddened by Scott's death and angry that systemic police brutality continues.

Our society is on its way to being desensitized to the murder of innocent people by the law. There's a human behind the hashtag #WalterScott
