Mumford & Sons 'The Wolf' Review: New 'Wilder Mind' Track Shows What Plugged In Band Can Do [LISTEN]

Mumford and Sons: Believe

Mumford and Sons: The Wolf

Instead of taking pages out of U2's and Coldplay's books like they did for "Believe," "The Wolf" feels like an actual marriage of what the new and old Mumford and Sons have to offer. Bringing in a heavy electric bass, the bottom line of this song is its strongest suit, with a momentum that can only be described as magnetic and infectious. Even in an office chair, it's hard to resist the urge to rock out to this track.

The music on "The Wolf" is pure rock 'n' roll, adding a grittiness that was missing in the first electric offering. With the distortion and Strokes-esque guitars, Marcus Mumford's gravely, throaty vocals mix in perfectly, giving the song a biting edge. He sings with a longing passion, injection in emotion that feels powerful and genuine.

"Been wandering for days / How you feel me slip your mind / Leave behind your wanton ways / I want to learn to love in kind / You're all I ever longed for," Mumford sings in the chorus, before an explosion of guitars takes over.

And we're buying this new Mumford...
