The teaser is filled with a long line of shots from the upcoming season, offering no plot information. One scene shows Vaughn and Farrell sitting at a table in what looks to be a tense moment. Another flash shows Taylor Kitsch getting into a brawl that results in him pulling out his gun. There is really not too much else to say other than check the thing out because it is exciting stuff.
As Deadline noted, True Detective Season 2 will follow three police officers -- Farrell, McAdams and Kitsch -- and Vaughn as a "career criminal." It will run for eight episodes and feature directing work by Justin Lin (Star Trek 3), Daniel Attias (Homeland) and Miguel Sapochnick (Game of Thrones).
Creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote all eight episodes for the first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as partners. He returned to pen Season 2 as well.
Cary Joji Fukunaga (Jane Eyre) won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on the show, while Harrelson and McConaughey received nominations -- they lost to Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad.
"If True Detective is still running years from now, as it probably should be, the filmmakers and HBO can thank the incredibly fortuitous timing of casting Matthew McConaughey (yes, the Oscar-winning actor, not the Failure to Launch dude) and Woody Harrelson in the central roles -- a pairing that not only elevated interest in the series, but which suggests the sky’s the limit for finding new players for future seasons," Variety wrote following the Season 1 finale.
