Over the past few days, Twin Peaks fans have endured a whirlwind of emotions from extreme excitement to utter disappointment. With David Lynch withdrawing his involvement from the Twin Peaks Showtime revival, the cast took matters into its own hands, hoping for a compromise.
As Variety notes, contract disputes were the main cause of Lynch's decision to terminate involvement and earlier this week, he posted an official statement on his Facebook — his reasoning being that there was not enough money offered in order to complete a worthy revival in the way he felt necessary.
Sherilyn Fenn, who played the sultry Audrey Horne, announced via Facebook, "In the next few hours we will release a surprise that will show this is really us taking a stand." She continued to express gratitude toward Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson) for assembling the two-minute video. Countless members from the cult-classic TV show, with an exception of Kyle MacLachlan (Agent Dale Cooper) make appearances in the video making statements that begin with "Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like..."
Sheryl Lee, who played the mysteriously deceased Laura Palmer, finished the sentence with the appropriate saying, "Like a girl without a secret." Cast members including Norma Jennings, James Hurley, Lucy Moran, Mike Nelson, Nadine Hurley, Lynch's own daughter Jennifer and more continue to make analogies including "a dog without a park," "eyes without brows," "pie without cherries," "a waitress without a uniform" and finally, from Catherine E. Coulson (who played the Log Lady), "Twin Peaks without David Lynch would be like a log without bark."
The hashtag #SaveTwinPeaks swept over various social media platforms and was even posted by Twin Peaks' own Ray Wise (Leland Palmer) along with a photo of himself and Lynch as he expressed support for his difficult decision.
The revival will be set in present times and will continue on with Showtime, reports Rolling Stone.
Co-creator Mark Frost will pen a book titled The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks that is to be released this year.
