A memorial service was held on Saturday for Phil Everly in Powderly, Ky. Two hundred people gathered, including fans, other musicians and friends of the Everly Brothers. Country musician Marty Brown performed songs by the duo.
At age 74, Phil Everly died on Jan. 3 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Alongside his brother Don, the duo had 19 Top 40 hits between 1957 and 1962. The Everly Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The memorial service was held at the Merle Travis Music Center in Powderly near Central City. The Everly Brothers entertained in the area for years at a homecoming benefit.
Diana Sue Taylor, a cousin of Everly's, was there and looked through some of the memorabilia before the service.
"I'm so happy to see so many family, friends and fans of my cousins come together for such a joyous occasion. Looking at all the memorabilia brings back so many fond memories," she said, according to Billboard.
Carol and Phil Brammer, two fans who came to the service, donated 12 posters to the Muhlenberg County Music Museum. "I'm just such a big fan of the Everly Brothers and have been collecting their stuff for many years," Carol Brammer said. "As I get older I want it to be somewhere that it will be cherished and loved."
Less than a week after Phil Everly's death, the legendary duo's record sales went up by 696 percent, according to Billboard.
