Trevor Powers, a.k.a. Youth Lagoon, released a new song as part of Lefse Record's compilation The Space Project, which features songs from 14 artists who used sounds from deep space to "create their very own soundscapes."
Power's contribution, "Worms," is the first single off the compilation and features noises from the Rings of Uranus. In it he sings, "I might be a bit deranged, but I've loved you for decades."
Powers posted on his Facebook page an explanation for how the sounds were made saying, "FYI: although there's no real sound in the vacuum of space, it's possible to translate the electromagnetic radiation fluctuations and charged particles of these celestial bodies into conventional sound. So now that you're no better of a person at all for knowing that, a collection of artists have come together to take audio recordings of planets that were gathered by the Voyager 1 & 2 space probes and manipulate these frequencies in music. This is my piece."
More details on The Space Project are coming soon, according to Fat Possum. Check out "Worms" here, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
