Wale has released the video for his track "The Girls on Drugs" off The Album About Nothing that dropped March 31. The song, which sampled Janet Jackson's "Go Deep," is paired with dark visuals that highlight themes of insecurity and internal struggle.
The video kicks off with three women in the gym working out while fixated on taking pictures and selfies. They retreat to their apartment to drink and smoke, but, of course, not without the occasional selfie and Instagram post.
The club scene entails more pictures, more partying and more drinking. After noticing one girl has partied too hard, Wale confronts her by saying,
"What's wrong with you? Like what's really wrong with you?" he asks with concern. "What I see right now, I see a little girl, scared, sad, confused, don't know what to do, that look for Instagram likes and H&M sales. That's what I see."
In an interview with MTV News, Wale dished on his overall happiness and his state of mind.
"Every year that I get to do this for a living...I'm blessed...I could be in a daggon KFC dipping fake chicken in grease, trying to make ends meet-no pun intended. You know, I'm doing this, so I'm happy about that."
In regards to The Album About Nothing, Wale touched on his connection to Jerry Seinfeld and why he feels they have a lot in common.
"We've had some candid conversations that were off camera, that I kind of realize this is probably the richest person I know. He deals with some of the things that I deal with, as far as frustrations about real life things. You know, that was good to know that I wasn't alone in it."
