While the world has been licking its chops waiting for the official Kendrick Lamar remix of Kanye West's "All Day" to drop, the To Pimp a Butterfly rapper quietly laid down a verse on BJ the Chicago Kid's "It's True" that originally features Schoolboy Q. The TDE firepower, with label president Punch, brings out a new street level toughness to the track. Originally taken from BJ the Chicago Kid's November mixtape The M.A.F.E. Project, which featured the likes of Freddie Gibbs and Schoolboy Q, the track has an easygoing beat, with a catchy riff that serves as the perfect platform for other rappers to lay down their own verses.
Kendrick speaks to the crime found in his hometown and how things can change in a matter of seconds, which fits the theme of the track:
School test scores drop, murder rates climbin'
Scarface where you watch, try to re-enact
And launched over the balcony, bust shots in our backs
Every day casualties got me losin' my sanity
Can this be within arm reach?
He continues on talking about the gang violence in the neighborhood:
Close call, the ghetto is like a quick game of tennis ball
You're probably well-preserved until you get served
Through the knowledge I get a few dollars, you gettin' demolished
If you cruise through Compton wearin' red or blue
See colors in these n***as' eyes
Is like a favorite color bein' told by the blind, don't really matter

BJ the Chicago Kid is developing a strong relationship with TDE. He has been a feature artist on albums from Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and famously Schoolboy Q for their Grammy-nominated collaboration "Studio." It seems like only a matter of time before he joins the crew.
