Miley Cyrus playing 'MTV Unplugged' at end of January

The MTV Unplugged series has succeeded at converting excellent music (which is electric guitar-based) into excellent music (which is acoustic guitar-based). Among our favorites: Nirvana, Eric Clapton, and Alice in Chains. It's nice to hear the other side of raucous rockers. MTV's newest Unplugged star isn't renowned for her abilities on any guitar, but still promises to bring in the viewers: Miley Cyrus.

There's no word on what the stage setup will be, or if Cyrus herself will pick up a guitar, but special guests have already been hinted at. The pop star (MTV's 2013 Artist of The Year) will probably keep the setlist heavy on tracks from her most recent album, Bangerz, as well as throwing out some older hits, but don't expect as much in terms of blues standards (a la Nirvana).

Those familiar with Cyrus's recent appearances on MTV aren't wrong to snicker and assume that the singer's performance won't be the only thing that's stripped down. The image released promoting the appearance features Cyrus is faux-cowgirl gear, with a set of false teeth and a pair of sequined star pasties covering her breasts. All we can do is hope that the entire performance won't be a recreation of the Forrest Gump scene where Jen-nay sits naked on a cabaret stage with her acoustic guitar.

The performance is set to air on January 29 at 9 p.m., but if you miss out, you can catch Cyrus is all her electric glory when she sets out on her "Bangerz" tour on February 14.
