Percy Sledge Dead: 'When a Man Loves a Woman' Singer Passes Away at 73 in Louisiana

Singer Percy Sledge has passed away at the age of 73. Today (April 14), it was announced that the "When a Man Loves a Woman" singer died at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Sledge's longtime friend David Johnson announced that the legendary singer had passed away this morning, The Times Daily reports. An immediate cause of death has yet to be released.

Sledge is best known for his 1966 hit "When a Man Loves a Woman," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks that year. The song was far and away Sledge's biggest hit of his career and got new life when Michael Bolton covered it in 1992, winning a Grammy. "When a Man Loves a Woman" is listed as No. 53 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

Sledge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sledge leaves behind his wife Rosa Sledge, whom he married in 1980. Heavy.com reports he has 12 kids, 15 grandkids and one great-grandchild.
