John Williams, Owen Pallett, Arcade Fire Listed Among the 2014 Oscar Nominees for Best Score

'Tis the season, yet again, for the various industry awards, in which there are always a few tricks up the sleeve. With New York hosting the impending Super Bowl, for all who awards events pander to in Hollywood, well, it all becomes the medicinal liquor to our Holiday hangovers.

While most movie fans sit on the edge of their seats waiting to see if Leo FINALLY wins that long overdue Academy Award for Wolf of Wall Street, the scores behind the films, thankfully, have their own place in the winners' circle.

This year, the archetypal John Williams graces the category once more, along with visitors William "Win" Butler, Owen Pallett, Alexandre Desplat, Steven Price and Thomas Newman. The names are familiar, right? Yes, because film scores, nowadays, allow for artists to pivot from making their own art and music (i.e. Own Pallett) to dipping their hands into film scoring. This was evident with Nine Inch Nail-er Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score to The Social Network.
