Pitbull has announced that he will be collaborating with Jennifer Lopez on a song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Entitled "We Are One (Ole, Ola)," the song also features popular Brazilian singer and The Voice Brazil judge Claudia Leitte, according to Billboard.
FIFA and Sony Music have named the song the official anthem of tournament. It will be performed at the Opening Ceremony at the Arena de Sao Paulo and will debut ahead of the World Cup. It will also be featured on the upcoming Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Album, which will be released by Sony. A video is currently being filmed for the song.
This is also not the first time that Pitbull and Lopez have worked together. Most recently, the two collaborated on "Live it Up," a single from JLo's upcoming album as well as 2011's "On The Floor."
No further details have been released about the song, but it is likely the track will feature English, Spanish and Portuguese lyrics. The last FIFA World Cup song was 2010's "Waka Waka" by Shakira and South African group Freshly Ground. It currently sits at No. 2 on the Latin Digital Songs chart (it had previously spent 42 weeks at No. 1) and has sold more than 1.74 million digital downloads. The video for "Waka Waka" has been viewed nearly 600 million times on YouTube, according to Billboard.
"We Are One" will be the third World Cup song performed by a Latin star. Before Shakira's hit, Ricky Martin's 1998 song "The Cup of Life" for the World Cup in France went No. 1 in seven countries and earned him international recognition. As Billboard notes, his performance of the song at the Grammy Awards paved the way for mainstream bilingual artists in the pop world.
Martin will also be recording a song for this year's World Cup album, chosen by a Sony-sponsered Supersong contest, which allows aspiring songwriters around the world to upload their own World Cup song. The finalists from the contest should be announced soon on the Supersong site.
World Cup fever started last September when Coca-Cola, the official sponsor of the tournament since 1978, released its 2014 World Cup song "The World is Ours." It is sung in English by former X-Factor contestant David Correy and has versions in Spanish and Portuguese from Gaby Amarantos, Carlos Vives and Wisin (of the former Wisin y Yandel duo). More versions are expected in the coming months. Coca-Cola's 2010 campaign song "Wavin' Flag" made Somalia-born MC/singer-songwriter K'NAAN internationally known and went No. 1 in 18 countries.
The tournament kicks of June 12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
