'Friday' Starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker Hits Theaters on 4/20 for 20th Anniversay of Film

As fans of the film Friday starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker celebrate 20 years since the film was first released, dedicated fans visited the theaters today to watch Friday, the flick that involves a lot of smoking, in honor of 4/20.

In an interview with Billboard, Ice Cube shared why he thinks fans are so dedicated to Friday and the two sequels that followed.

"For one thing, everybody can be Craig and Smokey," Ice Cube told Billboard. "You can always kick it with Craig, the homeboy or homegirl, just kick it all day and trip off your neighborhood. That's what people do every day. It strikes a chord there."

He also added why Friday is so relatable.

"But also, it's the day the bully gets his a** whooped," he added. "Everyone remembers the day the bully gets his ass whopped. Everybody loved that day. It was like ding-dong, the witch is dead. It's a thing everybody loves and remembers — so everybody can be Friday. Everybody's life can be Friday."

According to Rolling Stone, the 20th anniversary debut of Friday that plays today on 4/20, is the director's cut of the original film, via Fathom Events. The movie's soundtrack that went double-platinum was also reissued on vinyl 3-D "smoking" art, Rolling Stone reported. The original soundtrack included Dr. Dre's "Keep Their Head Ringin".

"We wanted to make what we called a "hood classic," Ice Cube told Rolling Stone. "I grew up on the Cheech and Chong and Sidney Poitier-Bill Cosby movies; I loved Carwash and Uptown Saturday Night and Hollywood Shuffle, with Robert Townsend. Whether they're American classics or not, that's another story. But they are neighborhood classics, and we were aiming to do a movie that the neighborhood would want to watch over and over and over again, and that's what we achieved."
