Drake Acknowledges Coachella Headlining Set Was Weak: "I Took an L for the First Time"

Critics of Drake's Coachella weekend one set - don't think that he doesn't know that his game was off during his performance. After reviewers panned the headlining Sunday night show, the "Energy" rapper realized that he had taken a loss on the show and promised to improve for weekend two.

In a new Drake at Coachella profile in Fourpins, the If You're Reading This It's Too Late rapper admitted that he had read online reviews of his show and recognized that he wasn't at his best.

Drake texted reporter Ernest Baker three days after Coachella, noting that he "took an L" for the night. "I took an L for the first time. I just have to reassess what went wrong with my judgment," he wrote.

Drake's weekend two performance was a minor improvement on his first show, but the reviews after his gig as a Coachella headliner were still mixed.

Billboard called Drake a "disappointment" and "underwhelming." Consequence of Sound noted that the rapper had "a missed opportunity to turn in something truly special" and asked if he was the worst headliner in Coachella history. And, The Guardian noted that the truncated versions of Drake's hits were "frustrating" and came out with this zinger: "The show will be remembered, but probably not for the reasons Drake would have wished." The awkward cameos from Madonna and Nicki Minaj didn't help his case, either.

Despite poor reviews as a headliner, Drake isn't done on the 2015 festival circuit. Alongside The Black Keys, DeadMau5 and Florence and the Machine, he's slated to be a headliner at Governors Ball 2015.
