Chicago rapper, Vic Mensa made headlines yesterday when it was announced that he had signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation. The announcement was streamed live exclusively on TIDAL. With the momentum clearly in his favor, Mensa went on Power 106 in LA to discuss the mater and much more including Coachella and his future, where he reveals the title of his upcoming project.
The conversation starts with Mensa's big announcement yesterday that he had joined the Roc Nation family. There had been rumblings for some time that the move towards a major was coming ever since he had started collaborating with Kanye West. He is featured on West's So Help Me God track "Wolves" alongside Sia and helped perform it at New York Fashion Week and on SNL. He was also able to score a coup in having West return the favor with a feature on Mensa's new song "U Mad."
Mensa says Roc Nation attracted him because he wanted to be a part of a company that are innovators. He has always looked up to Jay Z as an artist and a visionary in the music industry (though it appears his latest gamble isn't doing too well) and wanted to be a part of that team.
They delve further into his past and his musical upbringing and Vic reveals that he came up with the name for Innanetape because he got high one night and thought he was the internet and that idea grew out into the name for his tape.
The conversation ends on what the future has in store for Mensa. He reveals he has a new project coming soon titled Traffic.
"Im working on a new project called Traffic that's coming soon. It's like stories of my life- a lot of my most personal moments- most vulnerable moments. And Im really excited for the people to hear the music. There's vibes like "U Mad', a lot more introspective sh*t... just a lot of textures"
