Paul McCartney is the Richest Musician in the U.K., Beating Out Andrew-Lloyd Webber & U2

If you're looking for the richest musician in the U.K. and Ireland, look no further than one of the biggest rockers of all time: Paul McCartney. In a new list, the former Beatle was named as the musician with the largest net worth across the pond, beating out the likes of U2, Mick Jagger and Ringo Starr.

Paul McCartney is worth a staggering £730 million or $1.1 billion, Billboard reports, making him the only billionaire on the list (in U.S. currency) and miles ahead of other big name stars. Of course, most of his success is owed to McCartney's expansive, six-decade career, but McCartney's personal fortunes are aided by his heiress wife Nancy Shevell, who brought $225 million into their marriage.

The legendary theatre songwriter Andrew Lloyd-Webber arrives second on the list, netting $976 million in assets thanks to his work on The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar and Cats.

Rock band U2 comes in at No. 3 on the list, with Bono and co. worth an estimated $637 million.

Other big name acts on the list include: Elton John ($406 million), Sting ($270 million) and McCartney's former bandmate Starr, who is worth $270 million.

It's notable that the top 10, minus McCartney's wife, are all men.
