Category: Best Rap Album
Nominees:
Nothing Was the Same by Drake
Magna Carta...Holy Grail by Jay Z
good kid m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
The Heist by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Yeezus by Kanye West
What Album Should Win: good kid m.A.A.d city
When asking which of the nominees put out the best rap album, it’s no question that good kid m.A.A.d city is the strongest candidate. Lamar is already considered the Hottest MC in the Game and the album is more or less being considered a new classic with its powerful storytelling and on-point lyricism. It’s also a rap album in the truest sense of the word, unlike perhaps The Heist, which has more pop sensibility. However, we’re betting (or at least crossing our fingers) that Lamar will take home album of the year, leaving room for Kanye West to snag Best Rap album.
What Album Will Win: Yeezus
First of all, Kanye West generally dominates this category, so history is on his side with this one. And seeing as how despite Yeezus being named at the top of many Best Of 2013 list, it isn’t being considered for Album Of The Year, it’s likely that Ye will at least walk away with Best Rap Album. It was the strongest album, save good kid m.A.A.d city, out of the bunch and does deserve some Grammy recognition. Yeezus sees West pushing boundaries once again as an experimental artist, but we will have to wait an see if it's too controversial for the committee to handle.
