Damon Dash Serves $2.5 Million Summons Against Ex-Wife after Custody Battle over Fashion Mismanagement

Damon Dash is having more problems in the fashion world as the hip-hop entrepreneur filed as summons in the New York Supreme Court against ex-wife Rachel Roy for "grossly mismanaging" Royale Etenia, the fashion business the pair once ran together. The clothing line has (according to Billboard) been worn by notable names such as Michelle Obama, Kim Kardashian and Tyra Banks.

The full details of the claim haven't been listed publicly yet, but for a primer Dash has claimed that Roy mismanaged the business, violated previsions of the company's operating agreements and also blocked cash distribution to Dash. Altogether he's looking to accrue more than $2.5 million in damages from his ex-wife regarding the case. Dash has also filed another $2.5 million claim against a second party, Topson Downs of California, which also had a connection to Roy.

Don't think that there's nothing personal going on here: The filing comes a mere two days after custody of the former couple's children was granted to Roy, and Dash was given a restraining order. If anything's going to inspire a vengeful lawsuit...that's an option. The couple has been divorced since 2009.

This isn't the first bit of fashion drama involving Dash: The entrepreneur used to serve as manager for Jay Z, which ended bitterly when the rapper became president of Def Jam Recordings and Dash left Roc-A-Fella Records, a company he founded with Jay. The emcee then bought out Dash's hold on the Rocawear clothing brand during 2004.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Roy was involved with a lawsuit with the Jones Apparel Group last year regarding a manufacturing and distribution deal gone wrong, alleging that the latter company entered a deal under false pretenses attempting to take ownership of Roy's work. Whether that lawsuit has any ties to Dash remains to be seen.
