Stephen Hawking Theorizes About Zayn Malik's One Direction Departure, Says "There Could Be A Parallel Universe" In Which He Stayed In The Group

Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking is a pretty smart man. So when he talks about something significant, like One Direction losing Zayn Malik, you listen! While giving a lecture at Sydney Opera House, according to NME, one audience member asked him "What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?" The renowned scientist gave a comforting answer after joking, "Finally, a question about something important."

He explained: "My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics, because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe. And in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.

"This girl [in the audience] may like to know that in another possible universe, she and Zayn are happily married."

This isn't the only music-related idea Hawking has worked on recently. He recently covered Monty Python's "Galaxy Song" for Record Store Day for release on seven-inch vinyl (watch below).

With Malik out of the group, we'll have to see what Hawking thinks of a possible Harry Style's departure. Lance Bass recently said that Styles was ready to leave the group before Malik did it spur-of-the-moment and already had solo material ready. The band's This Is Us documentarian Morgan Spurlock also said he foresees Styles leaving the band.

"I think they'll stay together for a little bit longer," Spurlock said. "And I think at some point Harry will probably leave. He'll probably be next."

Gossip Cop reports, however, that One Direction's people have said Styles' solo material is really just framework for One Direction's planned fifth studio album.
