Who Should Win: "Stay" by Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko
This was definitely one of the most prevalent songs of 2013. Rihanna is no stranger to major hits on the pop charts, but this song made a particularly impactful impression, and it deserves some official recognition. In an unexpected gesture, '70s punk rock singer-songwriter Patti Smith even paid tribute to the track when she covered it at her 67th birthday celebration a couple weeks ago and said, "I will now sing to you the 2013 song of the year."
Who Will Win: "Suit & Tie" by Justin Timberlake and Jay Z
It's fair to say that Justin Timberlake and Jay Z were both undeservingly overlooked in the major categories for this year's Grammys. This will likely be the spot where they get some credit. When it comes to pop, Timberlake is the definition of innovation and resilience. Partnering up with hip-hop royalty like Jay Z gave this song some additional edge and puts it right in the position for a win in this category.
