A lot of you have been breaking the first two rules of Fight Club — including author Chuck Palahniuk. The cult classic novel-turned-film following the manifestation of Tyler Durden is getting a sequel in comic book form. Palahniuk has released cover photos from the series, drawn by Kabuki's David Mack.
Fight Club 2's plot line fast forwards ten years after the novel (not the film) and catches up with the modern day narrator. Palahniuk chose a different medium to avoid being compared to either the novel or the film but one thing is for sure — Tyler Durden is alive and well. "It's so much fun to be Tyler Durden, to think like that character," Palahniuk told Maxim. Palahniuk sees this opportunity as a way to claim his story once again. After being adapted to the film, there were a lot of gray areas to be avoided. "You know, it's kind of me being part of the party. The party kind of moved away from me. And if I had known I was going to have to talk about it for the rest of my life, I would have made it a bigger story — kind of develop it into a Lovecraft mythology or Stephen King mythology, like they both have. And I thought I better take the chance to do it now," he said, reports MTV News.
It will remain a graphic novel series for now, but when Palahniuk signed over rights for filming, it included rights to possible sequels and TV series. The first novel allowed readers to place themselves in the lives of the narrator, connecting to comparable situations regarding his boss and father. "With the sequel, I wanted to put this guy ten years down the road where he finds himself being just as bad a father — if not a worse father — than his father was. And then to explore really what his family history was like. We all think that history is us. We are everything in the moment," Palahniuk told MTV News in an interview.
A preview of Fight Club 2 was released on May 2, Free Comic Book Day, while the entire first issue is set to hit shelves on May 27 via Dark Horse Comics.
