Mariah Carey New Single 'Infinity' Isn't About Nick Cannon, Explains Song Meaning in Las Vegas Interview

Mariah Carey: take on Las Vegas

Mariah Carey: Infinity

"Honestly, it's about loving yourself first," Carey told EXTRA

"Infinity is like love equals you first, the line, there's a section of the song where it's like a chant, it's like 'You're leaving, you're leaving you're out the door / Infinity loving me more and more,' meaning you have to love yourself first. It can't be all about somebody else's thing or their issues it has to be you, and then you can deal with the rest of the things in your life," Carey explained about the seemingly biting anthem, which begins with the lyrics "Why you mad."

"Yeah, we had fun with the lyrics, but I do that with a lot of songs listen to 'Touch My Body,' listen to 'Obsessed,' we go back and forth with it," she explained, also noting that she penned "Infinity" especially for her Las Vegas residency, referring to the track as a "showpiece."

Carey is set to begin her residency at Caesar's Palace on May 6. She's set for 18 shows in the big city before concluding the first round of her residency on July 26.

Entitled Mariah Carey #1 to Infinity, the show will feature all 18 of Carey's No. 1 singles (and her new single). Carey will also be releasing a coinciding best-of album of the same name on May 18.
