The battle over Tha Carter V between Lil Wayne, Birdman and Cash Money Records has gone on for seemingly an eternity. It has become the centerpiece of a $51 million lawsuit levied by Lil Wayne against Cash Money. Mannie Fresh, a major figure in the development of Lil Wayne and Cash Money recently sat down with Montreality to discuss a variety of topics including his first paycheck, Tha Carter V, Kanye West and much more.
Speaking on the album that fans have been eagerly waiting to hear, Mannie gave some unique insight into the LP's sound, but did not give any clarification on its potential release status.
"We [are] still waiting to see what happens with that album. We kind of went back to that original Cash Money feel. Like what you grew up. The Mannie Fresh sound that you knew Wayne and Mannie did," explains Fresh. "It is more of that first Carter, that feel."
He praises Kanye for his passion and says "hip-hop needs more people like him." Watch the interview below.
The battle over Tha Carter V has cooled publicly in recent months, but the lawsuit still remains in place. It was reportedly moved from Florida to New Orleans, coinciding with the move by Weezy to sell his Miami home.
At a recent stop on his club tour, Lil Wayne told a crowd that Tha Carter V was coming soon, however he has been telling people that for a very long time.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed the album was completely finished, but seemed to accept the fact that its release is out of his hands.
"It's super-done," Wayne admitted. "Cake baked, icing on top, name on top, candles lit. I would have released it yesterday if I could. But it's a dead subject right now. It's a jewel in the safe. It's that stash-house money."
