At least one of the Azalea/Azealia's in hip-hop have managed to lock down a date for their debut album. Iggy Azalea, the Australian/Atlantan emcee, announced on the red carpet at the Grammys on Sunday that her LP The New Classic would be dropping on April 14 via Def Jam Records.
Of course, the new date is the second official notice we've been given as to when The New Classic would drop. It was initially slated for October 2013, but the performer pushed it back that same month. The album is reportedly done, but the label hesitated to release it while Azalea was opening for Beyoncé as part of the "Ms. Carter" tour.
Def Jam is also the third new label we've seen from Azalea thus far in her young career, as her first EP Glory was released on T.I.'s Grand Hustle label, and the single "Change Your Life" was released on Virgin EMI Records (despite featuring T.I.).
There's no word on whether fans will be able to expect a new single in the meantime, although it's to be expected that "Change Your Life" will not be featured on The New Classic. The emcee did release a track with DJ Mustard recently, titled "Leave It" and featured below," but there's no word on whether that can be expected to appear on her LP either.
If worse comes to worst, at least we have an exact date listed for that Azalea. Azealia Banks on the other hand is still listed for March 2014, but recent drama between her and Universal Records makes that seem unlikely. The emcee sent out a series of tweets on Sunday both "begging to be dropped from Universal" and inquiring for Sony to buy her contract out from her current label. Banks' talent and social media feuds have made her a must-watch item in the hip-hop world, but we're not sure it's enough to put Broke With Expensive Taste out anytime soon.
