Music festivals are a place where people go to enjoy great artists and forget the worries from the real world around them. However, those same issues sometimes afflict music festivals in ways that can be disastrous. Spanish house and techno festival Groove Parade had to cancel the 2015 edition of its festival after 20 straight years. The festival was slated to have big name acts like Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and Laurent Garnier head to Northern Spain.
The festival released a statement outlining why it won't be coming back in 2015 and why it has to cancel so late with just two and half months until kickoff.
"The decision, not taken lightly, is due to the refusal regarding the use of the land by one part of the estate owning the grounds where the event has been celebrated since its beginnings. An internal battle over the land by the owners has forced the festival to be canceled for this year.
"Faced with the unlikelihood of successful negotiations and the uncertainty regarding a favorable legal decision, we have decided to react in what we consider the most prudential and responsible way to avoid risks and problems for all parts involved: public, artists and the organization itself."
They continue, expressing their thanks to the fans and offering details on reimbursements.
"We want to express a most heartfelt gratitude to the over 15,000 thousand [sic] people who have purchased their tickets and the 50 artists who confirmed their presence in the festival. All tickets will be reimbursed and the cost will be returned into the accounts used to pay for the tickets in a period of no more than 7 days."
Groove Parade was scheduled to take place on July 17–18. It was called Monegros Festival until this year, when it was renamed.
