These Hearts premiered the music video for their new song, 'Been Through Hell,' off of their newest album, 'Yours To Take,' yesterday, July 21. 'Yours To Take' marks the band's sophmore album release and became avaialble on July 9.
The new 'Been Through Hell' music video features the band members going through the difficult process of saying goodbye to loved ones and packing everything up for the road before heading out on tour. It also documents the process of being on tour and the struggles that accompany tour life.
In an interview with Mstars/ Hallels, Ryan Saunders explained that the inspiration behind the new song was, "touring life and being out on the road and all the hardships that come with tour life and just kind of saying we'd been through hell kind of seemed like an appropriate metaphor for what we were all going through."
The lyrics speak of not being able to eat, shower, sleep, afford gas or even really breathe much while on tour. "[It talks about] just touring and missing the people back home and dealing with playing shows every day and not showering and not eating and not being taken care of, you know?" Saunders said.
The song gives fans some insight into the mixed bag that comes with life on tour because it emphasizes how difficult touring can be while acknowledging that they have had 'the time of [thier] lives' while they were on tour as well. "We definitely love touring," Saunder explained. "It's kind of like a love/hate thing because you're away from your home and everybody you love and all your family, but at the same time you're out doing what you love and meeting new people."
The video features the band members hugging their girlfriends/wives goodbye, packing up instruments, driving, sleeping on the road, getting gas, making pit-stops, getting up to begin their day, skyping with family, playing with fireworks and performing in the back of a truck, all fitting activities for the theme of the song.
This song in unique in that it portrays a realistic image of what touring can really be like, rather than creating an idealized depiction of it. In this way, fans are able to get some true insight into the lives of the band members and the struggles that they face while being on tour. The ultimate message of the song, however, is that despite all the hardship of touring, These Hearts have a great story to tell and they intend on continuing to travel and 'conquer[ing] the world' the world to see that their story is heard.
