Back in December we first heard that Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro would be playing Friday, June 13th at the Isle of Wight Festival. DJ Calvin Harris (also Scottish) will headline on Sunday. Now Telegraph has reported that Red Hot Chili Peppers will be the main act on Saturday. (And yes, it's all very much not a secret anymore. Just see the website.) The festival is held in the United Kingdom and the band will be making a special stop for the show. No other dates are set for the U.K. at this time. Along with the news the band released this statement:
"To headline the Isle of Wight Festival is a once in a lifetime opportunity, following in the footsteps of Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. When we were offered the slot, we jumped at the chance. We intend to make it really special."
The festival is rich in rock history. Its 1970s event alone boasted an insane list of performers, including Bob Dylan, The Band, Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell and The Who.
Other acts set to perform this year are Rudimenta, The 1975, Passenger and The Waterboys. The festival opens Thursday the 12th and spans until Sunday, drawing a big crowd. Last year's performances by The Killers, The Stone Roses and Bon Jovi took in about 58,000 people to Seaclose Park, on the edge of Newport.
Interestingly enough, it's an all-ages festival. Children under 12 even get in for free. Festival season preps early -- you can buy tickets now. RHCP will also be playing Lollapalooza and some spring tour dates, starting in Brooklyn February 1st.
