American Idol: top three contestants
The three songs, which will officially be released as the first single from whoever may be crowned this year's Idol, give a showcase of exactly what kind of artist the contestants will be post-show.
Seemingly dubbed as this year's white guy with a guitar, Fradiani's coronation single brings his heavy Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 influence with an acoustic guitar led mid-tempo ballad entitled "Beautiful Life." The singsong melody is almost something out of Phillip Phillips' playbook but the song seems to lack the emotional weight of the season 11 winner's coronation song "Home."
As for Clark Beckham, he also found himself in the mid-tempo world with the potentially fittingly titled song "Champion." The song takes on an inspirational vibe with the boost of Imagine Dragons-like energy in the verses. And, on record, Beckham sounds quite a lot like Dan Reynolds.
This season's musical wild horse has always been fan-favorite Jax, who has taken on everything from punk rock to pop to the Beatles. When it comes to her own music on "Force Field," she seems to pull from her ethereal voiced sister Ellie Goulding by bringing the EDM into pop. In her rebellious spirit, the song has a strong haunting vibe, with Jax crawling through the production and blending into the music.
