How to start a record store: Liverpool's Hairy Records selling 15,000 LP stock on eBay for discount

Hear me, vinyl collectors: If you want to cut your child's college education fund short a few thousand dollars, you have the chance to enhance your record collection by more than 15,000. Hairy Records, a well regarded music store in Liverpool, was forced to close and is now selling its entire stock of LPs for at least £5,000

£5,000 ($8,228 American) isn't a small amount by any stretch of the imagination, but those who frequent record stores in the West Village (as we do) knows that even used records can cost as much as a new CD. This collection, by Hairy Records' description, consists of: "All genres including Rock, Pop, Prog, Metal, Reggae. Not a lot of dance. '50s, 60s, Beatles, Rolling Stones."

Unfortunately, you can't just withdrawal your savings and call the record store up. The store knows what it's doing, and put the whole lot up on eBay. As of publication, bidding has only gotten up to £1,850 but it will require a bid of at least £5,000 for the owner to actually sell. Another problem: You'll have to take care of shipping yourself. By our estimates, to transfer 15,000 LPs across the Atlantic might cost you a few extra thousand.

If you afford the deal however, it offers a number of happy outcomes: A) You're record collection will be so much better than your annoying friend's. B) You can pick out the ones you want and sell the others on eBay to recoup some of your losses. C) If you aspire to starting your own record store, boom. Instant stock.

Hairy Records was forced to close due to issues with the property it was located on, but during its time it had a loyal following in Liverpool, including Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

The eBay auction ends on February 4. Start collecting change.
