Yesterday, the hip-hop and music community at large woke up to the shocking and tragic news that up-and-coming New York rapper Chinx Drugz, real name Lionel Pickens, had been shot and killed in a drive-by-shooting. He had been shot multiple times in hit car in Queens at around 4 a.m. after finishing up a performance at Club Red Wolf in Brooklyn at around 2:30 a.m. Condolences and messages have been flying in from all across hip-hop on social media as artists try to cope with the news that one of their own was taken from them too soon. One of those who was most affected by the news was Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, who put up an Instagram picture of him, Chinx and French Montana, the mentor for Pickens, with a long, personal noted attached. In addition to that pic, Meek Mill has also recorded and released a powerful tribute track to Chinx titled "Miss My Dawgs" featuring Travi$ Scott and Strap.
The track is much more emotional then what we normally hear from Meek Mill as he laments those who have been taken from this world soon. You can tell this has really affected him with lines like, "They killed Chinx Drugz in his own city / They killed Lil Snupe in his own city / I wonder why I don't be in my own city? / I don't know if n*ggas are gonna clap for me or gon' kill me."
