Friend and filmmaker Gobi M. Rahimi who shared in Tupac Shakur's final moments on earth, is hoping to raise $300,000 to craft 7 Dayz, a biopic surrounding the "Keep Ya Head Up," rapper's final week.
Rahimi, who generated music videos for "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted," and "I Ain't Mad at Cha," is hoping to move on to the release of Tupac biopic, 7 Dayz, with an IndieGogo campaign to prevent it "from becoming another watered down Hollywood film," notes the IndieGogo page. The close look into Shakur's final days will involve rare footage of the deceased rapper. Producer Preston L. Holmes who previously worked with Shakur in Juice and Gridlock'd will produce 7 Dayz--not to be confused with the recent Shakur biopic in which John Singleton recently stepped down, making way for filmmaker Carl Franklin.
Rahimi, having been there during Tupac's death, feels an obligation to share the rappers story almost two decades later. The filmmaker sat by Shakur's side while in a coma until he passed. "This isn't a documentary," he said in the IndieGogo video. "It's not a hologram and it's not a repurposed album. This is my experience; my story. 7 Days is a narrative feature film about the week I sat security for Tupac in the hospital. The script incorporates never-before-seen footage of 'Pac that I shot weeks before his demise."
Incentives are given to fans who assist film funding including copies of the movie, a bandana and a replica of Shakur's 18-Karat "euphanasia" chain for $50,000. The campaign will remain active until July 2.
"One of the last things that Tupac said to me was, 'In six months, no one is going to recognize me, 'cause I'm going to be done with all the bullshit,'" Rahimi told Rolling Stone. "'In fact, I may run for mayor of L.A. someday, 'cause it's the politicians and the police force that are the biggest gangs in this country.'"
