To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatle's invasion of the United States, the New York Port Authority is putting up a historical marker at the Central Terminal Area at John F. Kennedy Airport, the location where the Beatles first landed and where they held their first U.S. press conference before their debut U.S. appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The event will take place February 7 at 11:30 a.m. ET, according to Radio.com.
To celebrate the Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show (February 9), CBS has planned a string of events including a full week of performances on The Late Show with David Letterman, which is filmed in the Ed Sullivan Theater, dedicated to the Beatles. Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Broken Bells and The Flaming Lips featuring Sean Lennon are scheduled to perform.
CBS will also air The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles. It features Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, performing both separately and together, as well as artists including David Grohl, Katy Perry and more covering classic Beatles tunes. The show will air February 9 at 8 p.m. ET. — exactly 50 years to the date and time of the original event.
