Nicki Minaj Confirms Jay Z Collaboration; Will It Drop On TIDAL Over Memorial Day Weekend?

Nicki Minaj has been getting close with the Carter-Knowles family as of late. After releasing her video with Beyoncé for "Feeling Myself," Minaj has seemingly confirmed a collaboration with Bey's husband Jay Z. On Thursday she tweeted (via Complex), then quickly deleted, a message of confirmation to a fan, who asked, "What about the Jay Z collab??" The Pinkprint rapper responded, "It's coming in three days."

It's unclear why she deleted her response, but if she was being serious, then it looks like Memorial Day Weekend has even more in store for music fans -- but probably only those who have TIDAL, since Jay seems to be exclusively releasing new material on his own streaming service.

The last time that Jay Z and Minaj collaborated on a track together was about five years ago when she stole the show on what many consider a career-shifting verse for Kanye West's "Monster."

It would be an interesting time to drop such a big single without an album tied to it to promote. Minaj is still working her Pinkprint album, which she dropped less than half a year ago, and Hov has not yet announced a new album in the works.

The two working together, however, isn't as surprising. Minaj's new album titled is an homage to Jay Z's The Blueprint. When she dropped the album's first single, "Pills N Potions," she spoke with L.A.'s Power 106 about how Hov was a major inspiration behind the effort.

"I think everybody knows how obsessed I am with Jay Z. He's always been my favorite rapper - him and Wayne," she told them. "He did such a great job of creating this Blueprint brand for male rappers, I felt. And I studied a lot of his blueprint, just in terms of becoming a mogul."

She added: "I wanted to do that, I wanted to be like Jay Z. I felt like with what I'm doing, I want female rappers to be able to pattern themselves with what I've done one day. And I think the album is soooo classic, it's gonna feel so good and it will probably be one that female rappers will look to as a 'pink print' for years to come."

We'll keep you updated on this potential collaboration as more information becomes available. In the meantime, be on the lookout this weekend if you have TIDAL.
