Back in March, Eminem teased a new song in the trailer for the upcoming boxing film Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Now the track has surfaced again under a different title in a commercial featuring Draymond Green for Beats by Dre. "I am phenomenal," Em declares through Green's headphones as the Golden State Warrior drowns out doubting reporters.
"Let me self-empower you," Eminem raps over heavy bass and gritty production. "When you're down and they're tryna clown the fuck out of you / When you feel like you're running out of fuel / I'll show you how to use doubter's fuel / I am phenomenal."
Eminem has actually been attached to the boxing film since 2010, when rumors began circulating that he would be cast as the film's lead. According to NME, however Em dropped out after scheduling conflicts caused delay.
It is unclear going forward whether "Phenomenal" will be his only contribution to the film or if he'll be featured elsewhere on the soundtrack as well.
He isn't the only rapper connected to the film, though. His collaborator 50 Cent is one of the stars of the film, playing Billy Hope's (Gyllenhaal) agent.
Southpaw also stars Rachel McAdams, Rita Ora, Forest Whitaker, and Naomie Harris. The film follows boxer Billy Hope as he fights his way to the top only to find that his personal life is crumbling around him. It is due out in theaters later this year.
