The nominees for the 2014 Juno Awards were announced today in a press conference in Toronto. Canadian musicians who released albums between September 1, 2012 and November 13, 2013 were eligible for nominations. In all, there are 177 nominees, including 80 first-timers.
Leading the pack with six Juno nominations is Montreal's Arcade Fire, whose fourth album, Reflektor, was one of last year's most critically acclaimed releases.
Michael Bublé and "Stompa" singer Serena Ryder are tied with five nominations each while Tegan and Sara, Celine Dion, Drake and Hedley each hold four nominations.
"Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke pulled in three nominations and is eligible because he holds Canadian citizenship through his father, actor Alan Thicke.
Nominees for Album of the Year are Bublé's To Be Loved, Ryder's Harmony, Dion's Loved Me Back to Life, Arcade Fire's Reflektor and Drake's Nothing Was the Same.
Group of the year nominations went to Arcade Fire, Blue Rodeo, Hedley, Tegan and Sara and Walk Off The Earth.
Breakthrough Artist of the Year nods went to Brett Kissel, Florence K, Tim Hicks, Tyler Shaw and Wake Owl. Breakthrough Group nominations went to A Tribe Called Red, Autumn Hill, Born Ruffians, Courage My Love and July Talk.
Country Album of the Year nominations went to Kissel, Dean Brody, Gord Bamford, Small Town Pistols and Tim Hicks.
Rock Album of the Year nods went to Headstones, Matt Mays, Matthew Good, Monster Truck and Three Days Grace.
Rap Recording of the Year nominations went to Classified, Drake, Rich Kidd, Shad and SonReal with Dance Recording nods going to Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie, Deadmau5, DVBBS & Borgeous, Jacynthe and Mia Martina.
International Album of the Year nominees include Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox, Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Imagine Dragons' Night Visions, One Direction's Take Me Home and Pink's The Truth About Love.
Fan Choice nominations went to Arcade Fire, Bublé, Thicke, Dion, Ryder, Avril Lavigne, Drake, Hedley, Justin Bieber and Walk Off The Earth.
The 43rd annual Juno Awards will be given out in Winnipeg (for the second time) on March 29 and during a live broadcast on March 30.
Calgary duo Tegan and Sara, Ontario's Serena Ryder, Walk Off The Earth and City and Colour were the first performers to be announced. A host for the event will be announced soon.
