We have been hearing rumors pretty much constantly since Fuller House, a reboot of the generational mega-hit, Full House, started that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen would not be reprising their shared role of Michelle Tanner. Now it has been officially confirmed that when Netflix debuts the revival next year, the Olsen's will not be involved.
"Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of Fuller House, I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family. It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards Fuller House." executive producer Robert L. Boyett said in a statement. "
When first asked if they would be returning a few weeks ago, the Olsen's tried to play it off as if they had no idea that Fuller House was even in the works, something that fellow co-star, John Stamos, called them out on almost immediately. He insisted that they did know and there were also rumblings that the Olsen's are the only cast members to have distanced themselves from their former television family over the years.
Now that it has been confirmed that they won't be returning, Stamos has claimed to be "heartbroken," something that sounds like it could be tinged with a bit of sarcasm. While many fans were hoping that Mary-Kate and Ashley would return, the reality is that nearly every other cast member already has signed on for the reboot. Candace Cameron-Bure, Andrea Barber, John Stamos, Jodie Sweetin and David Coulier are all in. Bob Sagat and Lori Loughlin are still ironing out their deals, but both are expected to return as well.
That's an awful lot of beloved characters all returning to an offshoot of the show that made them household names. Will the Olsen twins even be missed? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
