Grimes Announces 'Visions' Follow-Up, Year After Scrapping More Pop Disc

Alt-pop, alt-whatever musician Grimes has once again announced a release date for her new album, although we're inclined to believe it when we see it. The performer stated that her follow-up to 2012's Visions would be released during 2014...but then she axed the entire album after deciding that it came across as too commercial. The new album, which doesn't have a title as of yet, was confirmed for October 2015 by the performer this weekend.

Grimes said in 2014 that her original plan for her fourth LP "sucked, so I threw it out and started again." She admitted that she was partially inspired by fan backlash to her single "Go," which she produced with Blood Diamonds, an electronic music producer and frequent collaborator. The track did take on a rather dubstep-approach to its hook, which may have come across as "too mainstream" for fans. Considering that it was initially written for Rihanna...no kidding.

"It upsets a lot of my fans, and I get why it upsets them," she said at the time. "Everybody was like, 'Oh, Grimes is pandering to the radio.'"

It's unfortunate, as the song was still rather well done, even if it is more straightforward than Visions.

Although the new release is probably going to be among the most hyped releases of the year for Brooklyn folk, it'll inevitably be overshadowed this week by the new album announcement of her current tour-buddy, Lana Del Rey. The more overtly popular performer also announced a new record for later during 2015, with Honeymoon. Granted, Del Rey is only coming off of a one-year hiatus, having released Ultraviolence during 2014.

Anyway, here's the video for "Go," which will almost assuredly not be on the new record.
