Florida Georgia Line served as this year's headliners for the Indy 500 Legends Day concert, joined by fellow country performers Thomas Rhett and Frankie Ballard for the event.
"It means a lot to us to play here," member Tyler Hubbard told Rolling Stone Country before taking the stage. "There's good energy, and the Indy 500 is such a historic thing. This is only the second country concert to happen the night before the race. It's an honor. And I've never been to the Indy 500, so its something I can mark off my bucket list."
Although Hubbard was technically correct in his statement that this was only the second time a country musician has played the Saturday before, that's more due to how few years the Legend's Day Concert has been around. Jason Aldean was the first performer to ever headline the new tradition...and he did so during 2014.
The band had special reason to show up for the Indy 500 concert however...Big Machine, the band's label, is sponsoring one of the cars in Sunday's race. Scott Borchetta, the CEO of the label, previously dabbled in amateur racing.
Granted, most eyes on the 99th annual Indy 500 this weekend won't have anything to do with country music or any other genre: Four cars crashed during the practice run for the big show leading up to Sunday's event...and fans are looking forward to some aggressive racing.
