Surfer Blood Robbed, Losses Include Cancer Treatement Funds for Guitarist

Surfer Blood is reeling after a break-in not only sapped the band of its tour earnings but also resulted in the loss of money gathered for cancer treatments for guitarist Thomas Fekete. The axeman was diagnosed with a form of sarcoma, a rare cancer. He hasn't been able to tour with the group as a result but his bandmates have been using a collections jar to bring in additional funds for his treatment.

"The band posted a statement on its Facebook page detailing the crime. Fortunately, most of the larger musical equipment—guitars, drum kit, amplifiers, etc.—were left untouched, so the tour should be able to continue almost as normal. Along with the large loss of cash, some effects pedals were stolen as well. The band reports in its statement that those items are rather unique and that fans should keep an eye out at pawn shops in the Chicago area. Odds are if someone finds one, they'll find them all.

You can check out the full statement below:

"We deeply regret having to inform you this, but our van was broken into today in Schaumburg, Il just outside of Chicago. Not only did we lose thousands of dollars in personal items and show settlements, but we also lost all cash donations we collected for Thomas over the last 8 shows at our merch table. This last detail is perhaps the most heartbreaking of all in that so much positivity and amazing generosity could be ruined by one bad person(s).

Most of our large musical gear was not stolen and the shows will still go on as planned.

There are a few one-of-a kind guitar pedals to please keep an eye out for-not for their specific value, but for the fact that these are unique and recognizable items. If they are found at a pawn shop or private seller, everything else including the more serious items are likely there or somewhere nearby.

Thank you for all of your support. You help us all stay positive in the midst of something so discouraging."
