With the assistance of Soshi Games, Queen has unveiled a new app, Queen: Play the Game, which allows users to win prizes by taking quizzes and solving puzzles. Fans can also discover the history of the band through archival images and re-sampled songs from its broad discography.
The latest app can be downloaded on iOS and Android, costing around $3, and will be frequently updated with timely games and features. Play the Game is equipped with various puzzles and more than 900 Queen trivia questions. Monthly competitions will ensue, giving fans a chance to win Queen related awards and merchandise. June 30 will mark the end of the first competition and will include a prize, a fun-sized Freddie Mercury statue.
To be eligible for competition, users must reach a certain plateau within the game—the first competition is exclusive to those who have achieved two stars. Various challenges span each category including "The Songs," and stars are given out at game checkpoints, one when a quarter of the category is finished, two at the half-way mark and three upon completion.
Non-technology related, Queen are taking a reprieve from the road after a jam packed 2014 schedule, which brought the release of Queen Forever. The compilation integrated previously unreleased tracks. With the passing of the unforgettable Mercury in 1991, American Idol contestant Adam Lambert has taken over the role of temporary frontman for a 24-date North American tour. They'll hit the road once again in September for a leg of South American tour dates, notes Ultimate Classic Rock.
"I think a lot of the apprehension has faded because we've done this a number of times in the past couple of years. That's not to suggest I'm getting cocky at all, because I will never compare to Freddie Mercury. He's one in a million. At this point, I know how to strike a balance between honoring the way these songs were originally meant to be sung and my own instincts, my own choices," Lambert told Rolling Stone.
