The reason for Joni Mitchell's hospitalization during the last two months has finally been revealed, as Billboard reports that the guitar icon suffered a brain aneurysm. The performer has remained hospitalized at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles for two months as of publication, with varying reports suggesting that she may soon leave the hospital, with others coming across as much more dire.
Two months ago, USA Today reported that Mitchell had been discovered unconscious in the bathroom at her L.A. home and was transported to the hospital. Reports and details regarding the performer's health in the two months soon has been scarce and, at best, unreliable. TMZ released a typically shock-and-awe headline during late April, claiming that Mitchell was in a coma. The performer's website immediately countered those reports, releasing a statement that declared "contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma...Joni is still in the hospital—but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected."
Then again, the Associated Press reported at the beginning at the beginning of May that Mitchell would be leaving the hospital within days. Those rumors also ended up being untrue.
All the press hard really had to work with, up until the announcement of the aneurysm, was the knowledge that Mitchell suffered from Morgellons disease...a curious ailment where the sufferer has delusions of insects or hairs all over their body when no such thing exists. No symptom of that condition explained Mitchell's current issues however.
The new situation, as reported by Consequence of Sound, is that Mitchell will be released from the hospital soon, only to be moved into a rehab facility.
