The college dropout, Kanye West continues his tour around the United States giving speeches at various institutions of higher learning. This time Yeezy went back to the school where he used to teach, the Los Angeles Trade Technical College, to give the commencement address for the graduating students. The seven-plus minute talk addresses Kanye's life in fashion and the journey he took to get to where he was, overcoming adversity along the way and the lessons he had to learn from others and by self-exploration when faced with obstacles. He imparts that same wisdom on those sitting in the crowd looking to start their career in fashion.
Kanye discusses the long road it took for him to get into fashion after being a respected artist because when people know you for something, they want to box you in there. He implores the students to use their youth to learn and become the very best they can be. West uses the example of a friend's wife who shows him some designs and remarks she wants to be like some of West's contemporaries that is good enough. West talks about being taught by the late Louis Wilson.
Kanye had a Kanye moment in the speech stating "if you are the absolute best, you will get hated on the most" as he stepped back, kind of pointed at himself and smiled with cheers rising from the crowd.
"There are no worldly possessions that should come between you and your expression," reflected West towards the end of his remarks.
This is the second speech has given at graduations this year. He spoke at the Art Institute of Chicago and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree, taking the college dropout from Mr. West to "Dr. West."
